Common cold due to wind-heat



Characteristics and symptoms:
It is often seen in summer and fall. The manifestations are high fever and slight aversion to wind, distending pain of head, sweating, red, swelling and painful throat, cough, sticky or yellowish phlegm, nasal congestion, yellow nasal discharge, thirst with desire for drinking, red tongue tip and sides, thin white and slight yellow tongue coating.

Acupoint selection: Du-14 (Dazhui), LI-11 (Quchi), TE-5 (Waiguan), LI-4 (Hegu)


Course of treatment: 15 to 20 min per acupoint, once a day, 5 times for a course of treatment.



Advice: Often open windows for proper ventilation in the heating room and put a humidifier in the room. Drink more water. Take exercise moderately. Take the following food more like licorice tea, honeysuckle tea, radish, basil leaves, apples, almonds, oranges, bananas, etc.


Du-14 (Dazhui):
On the midline, below the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra (C7).


LI-11 (Quchi):
With the elbow flexed at the angel of 90 degree, on the lateral end of the elbow crease.

曲池穴: 肘を直角に曲げた時の、肘の横紋の末端にある。

TE-5 (Waiguan):
2 cun above the transverse crease of the dorsum of the wrist and between the ulna and radius.


LI-4 (Hegu):
On the radial aspect of the hand, between the 1st and 2nd metacarpal bones, closer to the 2nd metacarpal bone and approximately at its midpoint.

合谷穴: 手の甲の第1、2中手骨の間、第2中手骨の橈骨側の中点にある。
